Mission Statement:

I have a passion for wildlife, both on land and in the sea.  Through the lens of my camera I share this passion with you. I hope that my photos will encourage you to embrace these beautiful creatures and to protect what remains of the habitats that support them.

Go outside, and find some wildlife and just observe for a little while. No matter where you live you can find wildlife. It doesn't have to be a bear, coyote or wolf. Spend a few minutes watching the ants on the sidewalk and hopefully you'll notice the beauty of the organization of these creatures.

Latest Outings

I've added a blog, I like to think of it as a written addition to my photographic journey through the world. Take a look.

Bio

My name is BJ Stacey and I've always had a fascination with the outdoors. The wildlife, scenes and activities are not only a favorite way to spend my time but to photograph. Though I lean mainly towards wildlife, I am not adverse to turning my camera towards something else that catches my eye.
I currently live outside of San Diego in the suburb city Santee. Within 45 minutes from home I can either be at the coast, in the mountains, or in Baja, Mexico. There is always something going on to capture with my camera.

Photos of me

Obviously I did not take these photos myself (click here). They were taken by other talented photographers and given to me. Please take the time and look at there sites.

Equipment

I am a proud shooter of Canon SLR products. I have and do use other brands for point-and-shoot cameras, but the Canon 20d with a 500mm f/4 lens attached is my favorite set-up for working out in the field.

Gallery Notes:

Birds visit

Welcome to my Life List gallery. I think of my Life List a bit differently from most birders. I count only the birds I can capture in the wild with my camera but I don't confine my Life List to birds seen within certain boundaries (though I do keep those lists too).

Insects visit

The amazing colors, shapes, sizes and methods of moving of insects fascinate me.

Sharks visit

My favorite animals. The world's sharks command respect from all ocean creatures and they deserve our respect, as well. Often misunderstood as nothing more than man-eaters, sharks should be appreciated and protected for what they are and not feared for what they aren't.

Ocean Animals visit

From whales to dolphins to clams, I enjoy finding these amazing creatures making their way through the ocean. Sadly, many are declining in number. Join me in doing what you can to ensure that future generations can enjoy a dynamic, thriving, life-filled ocean.

Land Mammals visit

Encountering wild animals in their natural environments is wonderful, but how startling it is to encounter those
that have adapted to urban life. All photos are of wild, non-captive animals.

Reptiles & Kin visit

I rarely go in search of reptiles and amphibians, prey for many of my favorite animals, but I'll definitely snap their photos when we cross paths.

Places visit

Highlights of my favorite locations with separate galleries for special trips. Specific locales are given for my home base of southern California.

Events visit

Natural events such as southern California wildfires that happen close enough for me to capture with my camera.

Surfing visit

Surfing is my favorite outdoor sport to photograph. I've been lucky to see many surf pros in action at WCT contests in southern California and at the world famous Banzai Pipeline on Oahu's North Shore. Professional, grom, or member of the "old guys rule" club, I enjoy watching them all in pursuit of that perfect wave. I keep this separate from others sports because surfing is not only a sport, but a lifestyle.

Other Sports visit

People enjoying the outdoors. Hang gliding or beach volleyball, anyone?

Landscapes visit

Glimpses of the world's beauty captured with my camera.

Freshwater visit

All the uncategorized life that I find in and around lakes, ponds and river environments.
