Wildfires

  • Cedar Fire 2003
October 2003 saw the 2nd largest fire in the history of California. Over 280,00 acres of land burned, and 15 people were killed. The majority of the deaths occurred in the city next to where I live.
  • Firestorm 2007
Eight fires burning at the same time, three of which were major events on their own. Over 500,000 people were put under madatory evacution orders at one time or another. Almost 1600 homes were destroyed, and close to another 800 outbuildings burned too. Sadly, there were seven deaths. In all, over 369,000 acres burned. At the same time there were fires burning in Baja Mexico to the south and over fifteen fires burning in the counties to the north and northeast of San Diego.

Wildflowers

  • Spring 2008
Rated as one of the best wildflower seasons in a decade had flowers blooming from the desert all the way to the cliffs of the sea. Many of the blooms are smaller than a penny, so a macro lens was used for the close-up shots.
