Great White Shark

Guadalupe Island
I've made two trips to Guadalupe Island to dive with these magnificent sharks. The remoteness of Guadalupe Island, 180 miles off the coast of Baja, Mexico, just added to the whole experience. Seeing these beautiful sharks up-close is awe inspiring, and something that I can't wait to do again.

Monterey Bay Aquarium
This baby Great White Shark was being held in captivity at when I saw it. It was being rehabilitated from nearly being killed in a fishing net. Once healthy it was released back out into the Pacific Ocean. Who knows, maybe one day I'll see her again at Guadalupe Island.

North Shore Hawaii Sharks

Southern California

Leopard Shark
These sharks visit the coast of San Diego, CA every year. Most of the tourists have no idea that they're there. There is no reason to worry because these are very shy and timid sharks that try to keep their distance from people.

Mako Shark
This one shark came up free-swimming next to the boat I was fishing on. Since I don't agree with fishing for sharks, this one was let to swim on its way.

Smoothhound Shark
With teeth as smooth as sandpaper there is no reason to fear this shark. This shark was caught whole fishing. After removing the hook and having a few quick photo-op it was released unharmed.

Misc. Shark Shots

Cookie Cutter Shark Wounds
The Cookie Cutter Shark is one of my favorites, though I doubt I'll ever get to see a live animal. They live deep, attract prey by bioluminescence , and use a specially designed mouth to take non-lethal chunks of flesh out of any animal that dive into its depths. These wounds are on Northern Elephant Seals that dive to the continental shelf to feed.

Dorsal Fins
Just like in any beach horror movie, the dorsal fin does break the surface of the water at time. Instead of being afraid, I just become fascinated.
